Edson Barboza (Ranked 6) vs. Tony Ferguson (Ranked 7) UFC TUF 22 Finale

Edson Barboza has been called the Jose Aldo of the lightweight devision. If you’re to fight such guy, expect your legs to be sore, and don’t forget about all the stiff jabs you will eat throughout the fight. With a record of 16-3, Edson has made a dent and a name in the UFC. In the lamest possible term, Barboza is a bad-ass.

To beat a fighter like Edson Barboza, a fighter must have a consistent head movement that will prevent him from walking into those trains of jabs. Once you go through the lengthy reach of Barboza, and you should try to go through them, simply becuase if

you don't, you're bound to get demolished with one of his fast spinning heel kicks, you will have to have a high level wrestling to take him down, due to his high level wrestling defense. In other words, the fighter that can beat Edson Barboza on his best day has to have great head movements, constant pressure, great take-down offense, and if and when the fight goes to the ground, high level Jiu-jitsu. Enter Tony Ferguson

Tony Ferguson is a fighter you can’t prepare for. He presents a lot more problems than most of the fighters that set foot in the Octagon. With his constant pressure, Barboza will have a tough time landing any of his famous spinning kicks, and with his head constantly moving as he lets his hands go, he is the perfect threat to Edson. El-Cucuy comes from a wrestling background, and throughout his career, he showed creative wrestling, and more importantly, he showed rare rolls and moves that make you wonder “what will this guy do next.”

For Edson Barboza to win a fight against Feguson, he will have to have some fantastic cardio, which could be questionable knowing he took this bout on short notice. As Tony pressures him, which he will, his only hope is to angle to the sides and use his kicks to keep Tony guessing. Tony will have to keep his clinch game interesting, as Barboza's clinching could be quite painful. However, the second Barboza slows down, Tony will eat him like a shark.

What makes Tony Ferguson different than most opponents?

Tony "El-Cucuy" Ferguson’s heart is undeniable. How tired he is doesn’t determine how hard he will pressure and how much harder he will hit. With his scary knock out power, Tony is dangerous from beginning to end. If you pride yourself in being the best kicker, you may be disappointed with pressure like Tony’s as he makes his way to your chin. No matter where the fight goes, Tony is hungry and ready.

Ferguson shined a lot of light on his innovative skills in the Josh Thompson fight; he simply showed that he belongs with the best in the world, that's if he isn’t already the best. The next fight or two are the most crucial in his career, as he claims to be the best in the world, now is the time he proves it. There is no doubt if Tony wins another fight or two he will get right under the light for a title shot.

If Tony Ferguson continues his pressure, keeps his chin down, and keeps Edson Barboza guessing, he may be expecting some new fans. However, no one can deny the dangerous game Barboza possesses; it all comes down to who implements their game plan, and if Tony shows up like the last few fights, he might steal the show. If you're looking forward to Aldo and McGregor then you're a fan of intensity and this fight has a lot of potential to contain fireworks. No matter the outcome, and no matter where the fight takes place, this is not a fight you want to miss.
